What She Does
Seattle to the Gorge
I started kiteboarding in Seattle in 2001 at the Seattle Kitesurfing Association's Wednesday night kite nights. My good friend, Chris Wyman, had recently started a kiteboarding company (Slingshot Kiteboarding), and offered me a position in the marketing department. So I packed up my things 2 weeks later and moved to the Hood River area to work in this new and exciting sport.
Evolution
After working in various marketing roles for various kiteboarding companies worldwide, I realized that I needed a change. My experience in the marketing side gave me an advantage in understanding the business enough that I started my own movement in the growth of the sport.
A Philanthropic Movement
Soon thereafter, I started the Women's Kiteboarding Association, a non-profit that helps women learn, progress, and network in kiteboarding. Through the WKA, I have helped teach more than 150 women of all ages, from 7 to 77 years old, how to kiteboard! I also co-founded Kiteboarding 4 Cancer, a 501 (c)3 non-profit organization that unites the kiteboarding and healthcare communities to help raise money for cancer research and awareness. KB4C raised over $65,000 and is now in it's second year, scheduled for August 9, 2008! There is something about working for free for a cause that you truly believe in that everyone needs to experience once in their life.
While I am actively involved as rider and instructor in kiteboarding, I still run my own marketing and design business in downtown Hood River -- Farman Creative. Check out my work at www.farmancreative.com.
